The Grey Wagtail's commonest call is a sharp, short and metallic "tsi-tsi" or "tziff", brighter and sharper than the White Wagtail's tripping "tzivilitt". The call is often heard when the bird takes off or flies in arcs along a watercourse. The song is a simple, slightly grating and twittering phrase.
