The Long-tailed Duck is one of the most vocal of all ducks. The male can be heard year-round with a resonant, yodelling "a-aulik, a-aulik" that carries far across the open sea and lends a quite special atmosphere to the winter coast. The call is often heard from flocks far out to sea before the birds are even in view.
