Common Buzzard: Nest & eggs

The Buzzard builds a large stick nest that it readily returns to year after year.

• Nest site: a substantial stick nest placed in a large deciduous tree or a pine, usually 5–20 metres up in a woodland edge next to open ground.
• Reuse: old nests are added to and reinforced each season, and the same pair may have several nests in the territory.
• Parents: both parents incubate and then feed the young on voles, frogs and small birds until they fledge.

The open position next to fields and pasture provides good hunting opportunities close to the nest.
