Common Linnet: Nest & eggs

The Common Linnet builds its own small, free-standing cup nest and does not use ready-made cavities.

• Location: low in dense, thorny bushes, not seldom in thorn, blackthorn or juniper, well protected against predators.
• Construction: a neat little cup of grass stems and rootlets that the female lines with hair and feathers.
• Group nesting: the species often nests in loosely knit groups in the same scrubland.

The female usually lays 4–6 eggs, which are incubated for about two weeks, and the pair often manage two broods in a season.
