The Common Redpoll lives above all on small seeds, especially birch and alder seeds, supplemented with buds and some insects during the summer. In winter flocks are often seen hanging acrobatically in the tops of birches and alders to pick seeds. It also visits bird tables, where niger seeds and small sunflower seeds are appreciated.
