Eurasian Sparrowhawk: In winter

The Eurasian Sparrowhawk is a partial resident — some birds overwinter in Sweden while others migrate.

  • Stays: resident individuals remain year-round and readily hunt small birds near bird tables in winter.
  • Migrates: mainly northern birds head south to the Continent in autumn.
  • The bird table: place feeding near dense scrub so that the small birds the Eurasian Sparrowhawk hunts have cover to flee to.

Many birds pass along the coasts in autumn before the resident ones settle down for the winter.
