The Golden Eagle mainly hunts medium-sized mammals and birds, such as hares, ptarmigan and woodland grouse, and also takes roe deer fawns and fox cubs. In winter carrion is an important food source, and eagles then readily gather at animals that have died of natural causes or been killed on the roads.
