Golden Eagle: Nest & eggs

The Golden Eagle builds a large stick nest that is used for many years and placed with a wide outlook.

• Nest site: the large nest is placed on a cliff ledge or high up in a stout pine, often at the edge of the mountains or in extensive forest landscapes.
• Reuse: the same nest is added to and maintained for years, and a pair may alternate between several nests within its territory.
• Eggs and young: the female usually lays 2 eggs and incubates for 43–45 days, but often only one young survives to fledging age.

The early breeding and the inaccessible nest sites make the species sensitive to disturbance in spring.
