The Golden Eagle is mainly a resident that stays in its territory over the winter.
Sedentary: adult birds in the mountains and forests remain at their territory all year round.
Roaming young: young, not-yet-breeding eagles may roam widely, and some mountain birds move south in winter.
Winter food: carrion is then an important food source, and eagles readily gather at animals that have died of natural causes or been killed on the roads in wooded country.
Winter therefore offers good chances of seeing Golden Eagles gathering around carrion out in the landscape.
