Stock Dove: In winter
The Stock Dove is a short-distance migrant and is among the Swedish pigeons that leave the country during the cold season.
- Migration: most move south in autumn towards wintering areas in western and south-western Europe.
- In Sweden: in winter the species is largely absent, and the odd bird that stays on is uncommon.
- Return: the birds are back at the breeding sites early in spring, as early as March–April.
This makes the Stock Dove distinctly more migratory than resident relatives such as the Eurasian Collared Dove and the Feral Pigeon.
