Unlike the tits, the Blackbird is an open nester that builds an open cup nest — so it does not use tree holes.
Nest site: in a dense bush, hedge, climbing plant or low tree, usually 1–3 metres up; in gardens also in unusual places such as woodpiles and under roofs.
Builder: the female builds the nest from grass and twigs, with an inner layer of mud and softest grass innermost.
Brood: 3–5 blue-green eggs, up to three broods per season (March–July).
