Breeding season: April–July, usually 1–2 broods per year. - Nest: a loosely built nest of grass stems and leaves in cavities — tree holes, starling boxes (45 mm entrance hole), roof tiles and wall holes; the male starts building and then attracts the female. - Eggs: 4–6, pale blue and unspotted; incubation 12–15 days. - Young: both parents feed the young intensively; the young leave the nest after about 21 days and gather in large juvenile flocks.
