Common Starling: Migration

The Common Starling is a short-distance migrant and one of the very earliest returners in spring.

• Where: Swedish starlings overwinter mainly in Western Europe — Britain, France and the Netherlands.
• When: they move south in October–November and are often back as early as February–March.
• Variation: southern Swedish birds and urban birds increasingly stay over the winter.
