The Blackcap breeds in dense scrub, where the pair builds a small, rather loose cup-shaped nest low in a bush or thicket. The female normally lays 4–5 eggs, and both parents take part in both incubation and feeding. The young leave the nest after about two weeks, and in southern Sweden the pair can manage a second brood in a favourable season.
