In summer the Blackcap eats insects, larvae and spiders, gleaned from the foliage. During late summer and autumn it switches largely to berries and fruit — elder, bird cherry and various garden berries are popular. In winter, the birds that stay take fat, apple and fat balls at bird tables, which is an important reason why ever more overwinter in the country.
