Song / display call (male): a distinctive, high, metallic "krrrik" or "crrr-crrr" — the sound that has given the species its Swedish name; often heard at dusk and dawn during the display period in March–May.
Contact call (female): a rapid, sharp quacking "kvekk-kvekk-kvekk" — similar to the female Mallard's but faster and higher.
Alarm: a silent ascent with rapid wingbeats — the flock closes up and rises vertically like a cohort.
