Eurasian Teal: In winter

The Teal is a migrant that largely leaves Sweden in autumn, with only single birds lingering at open water in the south.

• Departure: the bulk leave in September–October and migrate to western Europe, the Mediterranean region and Africa south of the Sahara.
• Autumn staging: during migration large flocks gather on coastal meadows, shallow bays and coastal wetlands before moving on south.
• Return: the first Teal are back in March–April, and displaying males can then be heard on wetlands and coastal meadows.
