The Redwing is best known for its migration call, a thin, drawn-out and sharp "siih" heard from migrating flocks on autumn nights, often over towns and built-up areas. The song is a fairly short, melodic phrase that usually begins with a few falling, fluting notes and ends with a subdued, creaky twitter. The singing male is heard above all in spring and early summer in the breeding forests.
