The Blue Tit is regarded as a resident but is more mobile than the Great Tit.
Usually stays put: most individuals remain close to the breeding area all year round.
Irruption years: in some autumns larger movements occur to the south and west, especially of northern and eastern populations when the seed supply falters.
Juvenile dispersal: young Blue Tits disperse from their birth territory in late summer and autumn.
Over the year, though, the Blue Tit is still considerably more sedentary than the true migrants and has no fixed migration routes or wintering areas.
