Eurasian Bullfinch: Song & calls

The Eurasian Bullfinch is an unobtrusive bird whose call is easy to overlook, but easy to recognise once you have learned it.

  • Contact call: a soft, downward "dew" or "phew" — plaintive and unmistakable. Given as a pair keeps in touch.
  • Alarm: a higher "eek" when agitated.
  • Song: a low, gurgling song with soft, complex phrases — rarely heard, mostly during the breeding season.

Recordings can be found on xeno-canto and on the Artportalen (the Swedish species observation system) taxon page.
