Eurasian Magpie: In winter

The Eurasian Magpie is a resident and holds its territory all year round.

  • Company: outside the breeding season magpies are often seen in loose groups, and young, non-breeding birds can form larger gatherings.
  • Food: an omnivore that makes the most of human refuse; it also caches food in the ground for later use.
  • Built-up areas: it does very well in towns and villages where there is plenty of food all year.
