The Eurasian Nuthatch nests in cavities — old woodpecker holes, natural tree holes or nest boxes. If the nest entrance is too large the bird plasters it up with mud until the hole fits, which protects against larger competitors and predators. The female usually lays 6–9 eggs, which she incubates for about two weeks. Both parents feed the young, which leave the nest after a little over three weeks. The Eurasian Nuthatch is strongly territorial and a pair often holds the same area for life.
