Eurasian Nuthatch: Nest boxes

The Eurasian Nuthatch readily takes a nest box, and if the hole is too large it simply plasters it up to the right size.

| Measurement | Value | |---|---| | Entrance hole | 32–45 mm (plastered if needed) | | Internal floor size | approx. 13 × 13 cm | | Mounting height | 2–4 m, ideally on older broadleaf trees |

  • Put the box up in an area with old, large broadleaf trees where the species is already present.
  • Feel free to leave the mud plastering in place between seasons — the pair often reuses the same box.
