The Eurasian Nuthatch has a powerful and varied repertoire. Common calls include a clear, high, whistling "tsuit-tsuit" as well as ringing, resonant whistles and trills that carry a long way, especially in late winter and spring. The call carries far and you often hear the bird before you see it. The persistent, ringing spring song from a tall tree trunk is one of the first signs of spring in broadleaf woodland and can be heard as early as February, long before most migrants have returned.
