The Osprey is heard mostly in the vicinity of the nest, where it gives a whining, whistling and rather feeble "pyyp-pyyp-pyyp" that often rises in intensity when it is anxious or when a partner approaches. The call is surprisingly weak in relation to the bird's size. During migration and away from the breeding site the species is notably silent.
