European Goldfinch: Migration

The European Goldfinch is a short-distance migrant.

  • Where: many Swedish goldfinches migrate to Central Europe and around the Mediterranean, some as far as North Africa.
  • When: migration takes place in September–October with a return in April.
  • Variation: the proportion staying in Sweden has increased along with winter feeding.
