European Goldfinch: Song & calls

The European Goldfinch is a chatty finch whose tinkling, liquid calls are often heard from a flock before you see the colourful birds themselves.

  • Flight call: a tinkling, liquid "tickelitt" or "titit-tit" — soft and rhythmic. The commonest call from a flock in flight.
  • Song: a long twittering that mixes tinkling, whining and melodic phrases. Like a little garden orchestra.
  • Alarm: a sharper "tsew".

Recordings can be found on xeno-canto and Artportalen (the Swedish species observation system).
