European Goldfinch: Nest & eggs

The European Goldfinch is an open nester that does not use nest boxes.

• Nest site: an elegant little cup nest well out in the branches of a broadleaf or fruit tree, 2–5 metres up.
• Construction: the female builds the nest from plant down, moss and lichens and binds it together with spider silk.
• Broods: 4–6 eggs, usually 1–2 broods per season. The nest is often placed hidden beneath a dense clump of foliage.
