House Sparrow: Nest & eggs

The House Sparrow is a cavity nester closely tied to human settlement.

• Nest site: cavities in buildings, under roof tiles, in gaps in facades and in nest boxes.
• Construction: a bulky, untidy nest of straw and feathers, often in a loose colony.
• Broods: 3-6 eggs and usually 2-3 broods a season.

The declining availability of nest cavities in modern, well-sealed buildings is regarded as an important cause of the species' decline in towns.
