House Sparrow: In winter

The House Sparrow is a distinctly sedentary bird that keeps close to buildings all winter.

  • Flocks: moves in gathered flocks around farmyards, barns and bird feeders.
  • Food: grain, seeds and food scraps; forages on the ground.
  • Hardy: copes well with Swedish winters as long as there is food and sheltered roosting sites in hedges and cavities.
