European Robin: Song & calls

The European Robin's song is one of the most cherished in the Swedish avifauna.

  • Song: a rippling, melodic, cascading warble with varying phrases. The autumn song (September–November) is softer and more melancholy than the intense summer version.
  • Contact call: a sharp "tick" or "tic-tic-tic" — heard when the bird is anxious.
  • Alarm: a thin "tseee" when a predator flies over.

The European Robin is one of the few Swedish birds that sings at night during the migration season. Recordings can be found on xeno-canto and on Artportalen (the Swedish species observation system).
